The Two Fatalities Named in the Ivy League School Attack as Law Enforcement Press On With Hunt for Perpetrator.

Two students who were killed in the recent tragic incident at Brown University had tributes paid to them on Monday – amid a widespread hunt for their assailant persisted following the release by local law enforcement of the sole person detained in connection in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was called “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, as stated by the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which offered condolences for her at a gathering on Sunday.

Cook was second-in-command of Brown’s division of College Republicans of America, the group said. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also shared condolences on social media, saying in part: “It's indescribable. Remembering her family and friends, above all her mom and dad.”

The Second Victim

The second fatality was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his first year of studies at the Ivy League university, family members said.

Umurzokov’s identity was verified by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of entering the field of neurosurgery and helping people,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a online post.

The Shooting Incident

Nine more persons were wounded in the weekend shooting in the engineering building of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Authorities said by the end of Sunday that a man aged 24 taken into custody in a police operation at a hotel about 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was being released.

“We have a murderer out there,” declared the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you have to regroup and go in another, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last day or so.”

Public Fear

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, admitted: “It is expected to provoke renewed concern for our public”.

The shooter opened fire inside a room in the engineering building on Saturday, shooting over four dozen bullets from a 9mm pistol, a police source told the Associated Press.

Law enforcement that entered the hotel recovered a pair of pistols and two ammunition clips when the person of interest was detained, the news agency reported.

The Wounded Victims

Regarding the nine injured, a single scholar was allowed to go home, said the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in serious yet stable state, and one was in critical condition, officials reported on Sunday.

An educational institution, a independent school in the city of Durham, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was in the group of seriously hurt victims.

More Condolences

Tributes were paid to Cook at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A reverend stated, “She was an incredible, grounded, faithful bright light not only in her youth... but at the university she was a shining example in that institution as well.”

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the club. “Ella was recognized for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she worked for her branch and other students,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by the student's death in a tribute. “We extend our sincere condolences to the Umurzokov family, loved ones, and fellow students and grieve for of his promising future.”

The fatal shooting at Brown, the seventh oldest in the US higher education institution with about over seven thousand undergraduate and three thousand graduate students, happened during one of at least 392 shooting incidents documented across the United States so far in the current year, according to statistics.
